It’s been too long…

With the demise of supertones.com I bought the-oc-supertones.com to keep the band’s contributions alive.  There are a few new links, but that’s it.  I’ve contacted two members of the band to see if they would like to partner up with me and offer some exclusive MP3’s and schtuff.  We’ll see how that turns out, until then…

message from the O.C. Supertones myspace...

"Hey guys, John and I are working on a few songs from the final show that were recorded. Although we dont have plans on releasing a live record...we WILL put up songs from the last show from time to time. They are VERY rough sounding because we could not afford to rent good gear. But at least they are recorded and we will let you all hear some of them real soon."

It's been 3 months since the final show. Here's what the guys have been up to:

Mojo - speaking at youth events, you can book Mojo by emailing him at TheMorginskys@hotmail.com

Ethan - studio work, starting a label, making more music for My Red Hot Nightmare

Dan - working on making My Red Hot nightmare music

Beaty - roadie for Switchfoot in the Fall of 2005

John - playing drums for his church, recording with his band Chemical Chemical

Bret - who knows?

The OC Supertones Final Show w/ Bleach and John Davis: Show Review

My first thoughts of the show is the venue had to be way over the maximum capictity. At least 5,000 people were there. John Davis's set was incredible. Bleach was next and they were awesome despite missing Davy, Sam did great with the vocals though. Dan sang 'Bassline' for them. He could easily front his own band. The OC Supertones were in top form. It was a sad and exciting event. There weren't many tears shed at the end. I made sure to snatch a set list during the tech strike. Then I snuck backstage to hang out for a while. I had (these names wont mean anything to you): Matt Morginsky, Tony Terusa, Jason Carson, Darren Mettler, Ethan Luck, Dan Spencer, Bret Barker, Chris Beaty, John Wilson, and the '5th Beatle' John Davis sign my Prom 05' shirt, for the symbolism of it. Ya know... graduation... the band ends... I'm cheesy.

We have confirmed one of the opening bands for the final show! Our great friends in Bleach will be getting together to play a set at the last show at Biola! Although they have been broken up for over a year now, we begged them to play and they have agreed. We in the Supertones have grown extremely close to these guys over the years and have made long lasting friendships with them. We hope you all are looking as forward to this as we are! One more band TBA...Ticket sales TBA....

MOJO WILL BE SPEAKING DURING OUR FAREWELL TOUR!!

Hey guys, If any of you want to hear Mojo's talk on Apologetics, he will be meeting fans out in front of the venues each day of the tour. If you are interested in this, please meet outside of the venue 1 hour before doors open. This is not an extra cost to the show or anything, its free.

EP NEWS...

We have mentioned a possible "Final EP" in the past. Well, it will happen. John and I are bringing recording gear on the road and will be recording it as we travel...on the bus, hotels, venues..whatever it takes. We will try our hardest to finish it in time for the last show but we make no promises. At the least, after we are done touring, you will be able to get it on the site or through our merch company. Look forward to it...

Anyone curious as to what Mojo will be up to when the band is done? Well, he will be getting into speaking on Apologetics. Mojo is getting starting in this new venture right away. If anyone is interested in this, Mojo will be speaking at Rocketown in Nashville, TN on June 16th and 23rd around 7:00pm. There will be a discussion time after each talk. Also, it would be wise to attend both nights because there will be two different talks. This subject has been a passion of Mojo's for a long time now. So please come out and have your notebooks ready, your about to get a ton of info. Lastly, to answer a question that people will probably ask... No, he will not be playing Supertones songs...

April 12, 2005

I went to my 10th Supertones show tonight and it was AMAZING. It was a frickin' 18 song set! Ahhh!! We hung out with the band after the show. We got pictures with all of the members so you can look forward to those being on here soon. Dan gave me a free sticker before we left, he also called me crazy but he says that every time I see them. The best part is that the whole show was free!

http://www.zwire.com/site/news.cfm?newsid=14143275&BRD=2249&PAG=461&dept_id=450612&rfi=8

- Lead singer and songwriter Matt Morginsky chalks much of the decision up to the group's high turnover rate. Out of the current six Supertones, only three could be considered original members.

"It's hard when so many members leave," Morginsky explains. "We've had 26 members in and out. Not all of them played on records. We feel like our music's still vital - we miss them more from a personality [standpoint]."

- The head Supertone also hinted that the band's last run of shows may bring with them the return of some long-departed former members. "There might be a 'reunion tour' in the fall on our final run," Morginsky offers cryptically.

Edit: "The old guys are not going to be a part of the farewell tour. it was an idea thrown around and talked about but ultimately is not doable. they will be at the final show in OC for sure tho." - John Wilson

Hello all! It's been a long while since I've been on here. I didn't play the Arizona show (Joey from Pax217 filled in for me), and I just forgot after that. But our farewell shows have officially started, finally. We have no trumpet player right now (Bret's in Hawaii for 3 months) so we've been having fillins for this tour. The horn players from our friends in Mariachi Vasquez played with us last week in Boulder, CO. Today we had Clint from the Wedding help us out on a couple of songs. Here was our set.

Christianitytoday.com has a new interview with Dan that has two rather suprising notes, those being:

"As a band we went through an awful time right before the Switchfoot and Relient K tour. We found out our manager was stealing money from us and totally misusing it, which we came to find out resulted in us owing more than we could ever dream of."

- Dan

"We've had thoughts of maybe doing one more record and selling it on the road and the Internet."

John's comments on the worship album:

"if all goes as planned, it will only be the worship songs that dan and mojo sang, all the slow worship-type songs from our other records, and two more of the new songs we rerecorded...a newer john-davis-piano-driven Hold onto Jesus and a mellow reggae version of Louder Than The Mob. Hopefully none of the other songs will show up on there. They are completely aweful."

The Supertones have had a great run from their first release Adventures of the OC Surertones to their last offering- Faith Of A Child. Celebration with worship of the Lord faithfulness to them throughout their career and for the future. This album features great worship songs like Famous One, Enough, Here I Am To Worship and more!

from http://www.xanga.com/home.aspx?user=combatrock199:

I have been wanting to start my own band for a while now, that dream is finally coming together after a long time. My new band is called "My Red Hot Nightmare" and it's good ol' punk rock stuff. I'm singing and playing guitar....weird. It's kinda a side project for now. somthing to do for fun while the Supertones are still around. We'll see what happens after the tones last year but, for now, we will start playing some local Cali shows. We may have our first show ever on Jan. 24th. It's still not solid but we might be opening for Pax 217 at the Troubadour in LA. I will give more details soon when I get the word that were playing. Also, I'm going to have a "kinda" site to go to for shows and songs until I can put together an official site. This new band seems all of a sudden but I've been working on it for a while and I think we're now ready to start playing. Lastly, I'm still in the Supertones. Just wanted to make that clear before I start getting emails asking..."Are you still in the Supertones?". We're doing some demos right now that I will post very soon. so thats it...

Here's the line up of the band...

Ethan Luck- Lead Guitar/Vocals

Josh Auer - Bass/ BGV's

Zak Shultz - Guitar/ BGV's

Our drummer has yet to be determined but our good friend Dean Cooper will be playing any upcoming shows. that is all...

From the Roper email update:

"Our friends the Supertones have decided to call it quits after 10 years

together. We are going to join them on the first leg of their farewell tour,

which will run from mid Feb. until the first week in April. This tour will be a

blast as we celebrate their 10 years as a band. The tour is being booked by

William Morris Agency in Nashville and is looking to play rooms from 500-1,000

capacity. If you know of some big youth groups that would like to bring it in

you can have them contact frank@5minutewalk.com for more info."

December 20, 2004

Hey everyone. We are finally home for the holidays. The Christmas run was awesome. The Wedding, John Davis, and Side Walk Slam all did great. I look forward to doing more shows with these guys in the future. We had some crazy shows. Arlington,TX was a "pull the set list out of a hat" night where a different person in the audience picked the next song for us to play, plus some wacky antics as well in between songs. Dan and I both had family at the show, and Jerry, formerly from Bleach, was there also.

Side Walk Slam joined us in Little Rock, AR. We played at this dirty little punk rock club behind a pizza joint. We had a blast there. Mojo played drums for "Summer of '69" during our encore. That was a highlight...kinda. haha. Nashville, the only show that officially had all 4 bands from the tour, went well. And our last show was in Greensboro, NC, where our good friend Nikita Koloff, the former wrestler, came and hung out with us. We drove through a ridiculous snow storm to get to that show, which made me, Ethan, and Bret, more than happy to come back to California to our 70 degree weather. All of our set lists contains some version of these songs...

Spring Tour Announcement:

"To start off our farewell year, we will be hitting the road with Roper for at least six weeks! The tour is set to start sometime in mid Feb. Keep checking back because we will be announcing tour dates very soon! We hope you can make it out to these shows when announced!." - Ethan Luck

The Rock N Roll Christmas Tour has started. John Davis is amazing. The Wedding just keeps getting better and better. We played in their hometown last night at this little club. It was a cool show. Kevin and Cody's little brothers have a band, The Goodnight Fight, who also played last night. They were really good...and they have a key-tar in their band. It was also Clint's birthday yesterday. We had a little birthday bash at Cody's house before the show.

Anyone who can make it to the Christmas Tour gets to hear Joy To The World that the Supertones recorded many many years ago. It actually wasn't that long ago but it seems like it. John Davis and Kevin (the wedding) both sat in with us.

from Roper's news letter:

"Happy December! Well, the Ken-ya Spare A Dollar Tour has come and gone and we wanted to thank all of you who came out and supported Roper on their first tour. It was fun to see some old faces and make new friends. The band is currently catching up on laundry and sleep, but can't wait to get back out on the road and play some more shows very soon. It looks like we will be joining our friends in the Supertones on tour this Spring. You may have heard that the Supertones are breaking up in 2005, so we wanted to join their farewell party and hang out with those guys one last time. More details will come, so stayed tuned because wewill definitely need your help in spreading the word about the tour."

"Farewell to the O.C."

http://www.pollstar.com/news/viewnews.pl?NewsID=3698

It's been a long, fun ride for Christian ska-rockers O.C. Supertones, but all good things have to eventually wind to a close. In late November, the band decided, after seven albums and a million album sales, it's time to hang things up.

"There were several reasons that factored into our decision," the band said on its Web site. "Rest assured, however, that after much discussion and lots of prayer, we know this is the right path. Our end date is yet to be determined, but 2005 will be the Supertones' last year together."

Their booking agent, Mark Guynn of the William Morris Agency, added that it may be a bittersweet farewell, but it will be a lot of fun, too. Dates of their last tour are trickling in, so stay tuned. So far, the Supertones are playing seven dates between now and March, including stops in Nashville, Tucson and Lubbock, Texas.

The So-Cal band is known for an infectious ska-punk sound as well as light-hearted and energetic stage shows. Whatever the "end date," the Supertones are sure to be making a great last go of things in 2005.

Mojo recently said this:

"Hey guys, Mojo here. sorry for the radio silence. but i am not very computer savvy. but here i am now. better late than never.just wanted to stop in and say thanks for being the site mites and for all your thoughts about what the band has meant you andall that....i was touched. News from John Wilson (the drummer)

- The band is planning on recording Live! Vol. 2 during their final tour next fall. As for a dvd, John would love one but they haven't decided on it yet.

- One place that they're really pushing to tour at next year is Australia.

- Finally, the only tour the band is looking at is with Roper, but they don't know yet if that's gonna happen.

So today was the day that i threw up our farewell letter on our site. It was really bitter sweet doing that. I was so bummed all day about it, but at the same time, i'm really excited to see where God takes me next...another band, studio musician, design, taco bell...who knows? I am however writing new songs right now for a new band my friend Zak, Nick and I are hoping to get going soon. it will be fun to finally play some kick butt punk stuff...so we'll see what happens. i know i'm gonna sing, so we'll see what kind of mess i can make. no matter what, you will always hear music coming from me in some way. I hope none of our fans are ticked about us breaking up. if they are, sorry. its just time. at least were not totally done yet. we still have next year to plan. i hope we can hit every state and then some, but who knows? sometimes you cant do everything you want. I know we will try our hardest to make this next year amzing! anyways, i'm tired. it was a long day of reading fans thought already and thinking about it myself....that is all....
